Lecture Course
A Practical Approach to
Oral Pathology in Clinical Practice

JOHN M. WRIGHT, D.D.S.
OVERVIEW
The course is designed to review the more common oral mucosal disorders seen in general practice; including infections of the oral cavity, noninfectious forms of stomatitis, aphthous ulcers, oral cancer and precancerous lesions. This presentation will also focus on therapeutic management. The final session will review these disorders based on their common clinical manifestations; i.e. red, white and pigmented lesions, ulcers and tumors. Reviewing the common oral mucosal conditions seen in practice in a differential diagnosis format should provide a practical approach to the recognition, diagnosis and management of these problems.

OBJECTIVES
• To review the clinical features of common oral mucosal disorders.
• To provide a review and update on the etiology and clinical features of oral cancer and
precancerous lesions.
• To provide a clinically relevant and practical approach to the evaluation of oral mucosal
disorders.
• To recognize the clinical features of oral pathological conditions and group disorders
by their common oral manifestations.
• To develop a differential diagnosis for the more common mucosal manifestations of
oral diseases.
