OVERVIEW
Today’s hygienist is at high risk for neuromusculoskeletal problems.
Changes in dentistry and periodontics are putting more pressure on
the dental hygienist. The shift in emphasis from caries to periodontics
has placed the hygienist in a more responsible position. More occupational
pain is the result of an increased physical workload.
To help the hygienist cope with this increasingly demanding work load,
this course will address the needs of the hygienist by considering
how fatigue reduction and time control contribute to stress management
and efficiency. New insights from orthopaedics and ergonomics research
explain problems from past instrumentation techniques. This new information
is incorporated in an instrumentation technique that can improve working
conditions for the hygienist.
The lecture will be followed by a hands-on session in the clinic. Each
hygienist will have the opportunity to learn instrument sharpening
and the new basic power strokes in instrumentation.
OBJECTIVES
The participants will practice these techniques:
•
Instrument selection
•
Body mechanics
•
Sequencing of instruments
•
Probing
•
Instrument sharpening
•
Instrumentation technique
PRESENTER
