OVERVIEW
Using a workshop format, participants will be provided with examples of intraoral and panoramic radiographs containing a variety of exposure, technique and processing errors. Discussion will identify potential strategies for identifying sources of error and how to correct the error. In addition, key radiographic landmarks will be identified to aid in recognizing the diagnostic value of each radiograph and their importance to the dentist in diagnosis. Time permitting, participants will be provided radiographs with deviations and variations from normal along with a strategy to recognize them.
OBJECTIVES
• Given an assortment of radiographs, distinguish between clinically acceptable radiographs and those that are not clinically acceptable for diagnostic purposes.
• Given radiographs exhibiting various errors in exposure, radiographic technique and processing correctly identify the error and how to correct it.
• Recognize variations and deviations from the normal and describe them.
PRESENTER
JOHN W. PREECE, D.D.S., M.S., received his DDS degree in 1966 from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Illinois and his M.S. degree in Maxillofacial Radiology/Clinical Dentistry in 1972 from the University of Alabama, School of Dentistry in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Preece joined the faculty at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1975 where he currently is a Professor in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science.
