OVERVIEW/Hands-ON-Part
I
Instrument sharpening continues to be a mystery. Working with dull instruments
increase the physical demands on the operator and the discomfort of the patient
while providing a sub-standard result. There have been many methods developed
but a method that will provide sharp instruments one hundred percent of the time
will be presented. Since it takes only twelve to fifteen strokes
to dull a curet, it becomes obvious that chair side sharpening is essential for
maximum efficiency.
OBJECTIVES
After the course, participants should understand:
•
Proper posture for chair-side instrument sharpening.
•
The anatomy of a curet blade.
•
The eight second edging procedure.
•
The source of an economical, practical stone.
•
Participants can have sharp curets 100% of the time.
OVERVIEW/LECTURE- Part II
This presentation will provide an overview of the world of automated scalers.
Advances in technology will be reviewed. It will focus on the capabilities of
scaling the entire mouth with the right and left design tips.
OBJECTIVES
After the course, participants should:
•
Understand the difference in the technologies.
•
Understand the difference in tip designs.
•
Understand the difference in clinical application between universal tips and
right and left tips.
