Luncheons for Learning
Complex Patients, Comprehensive Care,
and Collaborating Treatment

Phillip W. Garrett, DDS

FORMAT
One day a month a speaker discusses a dental topic during lunch. The sessions are informal and the group has an
opportunity to interact with the speaker during the short discussion period at the end of the lecture. It requires only about one and one-half hour of your time to learn the latest developments in many areas of dentistry. It also offers the opportunity to become better acquainted with your colleagues and their staff since all dental allied personnel and technicians are also invited to attend.

OVERVIEW
Complex patients present with an array of dental problems likely to include a combination of dental caries, periodontal disease, and occlusal dysfunction. This presentation will focus on information gathering to provide a diagnosis and appropriate treatment sequencing that leads to treatment plan acceptance and successful outcomes. Multidisciplinary cases treated at UT Dental will be shown as an aid in learning and discussion. An overview of sequencing treatment by combining the expertise of the restorative dentist and specialist will also be discussed in an effort to restore patients into a functional and esthetic dentition.

Objectives
• Establish appropriate diagnostic records needed to assess the complex patient
• Guidelines for sequencing and collaborating treatment between clinicians
• Factors affecting case acceptance and success
